born on may 19, 1997 , sam is the eldest daughter in the carpenter household . from a young age , sam has always been protective in regards to her half - sister tara . with their mother relying on alcohol and being more than distant towards sam , sam felt the need to take on a motherly role to tara . she had a seemingly normal childhood , but that all changed at the age of thirteen .her life took a turn for the worse on that cold winter night . while innocently searching through the attic for christmas gifts , sam uncovered her mother’s high school diaries and learned the truth about her birth father — the infamous billy loomis . upon discovering this information , her father soon packed his bags leaving the carpenter household , and sam’s mother grew more distain towards her than ever — making sam promise to never tell tara about her relation to billy .falling down a dark path in high school , her life spiraled out of control . drugs , alcohol , distancing herself from anyone who got close , not to mention her father’s voice that loomed inside her mind and her crumbling mental health . it was all an attempt to distract herself from becoming just like him .
after turning eighteen and graduating from woodsboro high , sam packed her bags and left woodsboro . looking for a fresh start , she moved to modesto , california . although it took some time , her life was finally coming together . she found a job working at a bowling alley , met her ( ex ) boyfriend richie kirsch , and shared an apartment with him . it seemed like everything was going well — until she received that dreaded phone call .upon finding out the ghostface killer made a comeback to target her sister , sam dropped everything to return to her hometown of woodsboro . she reconnected with tara five years after leaving , vowing to never leave her alone again . however , sam knew that these attacks were happening all because of her and her connection to billy .after a few brutal days of losses , the masked killers were revealed to be amber freeman and richie kirsch — two people who the carpenter sisters had grown close to . ghostface’s reign came to an end when sam allowed her father’s darkness to help her , stabbing richie 22 times , slitting him in the throat and shooting him in the head . she would make sure no one could ever hurt her or tara again .
now cut off from their mother , months later the carpenter sisters make the decision to move to nyc along with their childhood friends chad and mindy . still recovering from the woodsboro attacks , tara is now a freshman studying at blackmore university and sam is working two jobs and attending therapy . however , sam feels obligated to be more protective over her sister due to the trauma they endured back home . she’s kept her promise to stick by her side and look out for her , but this causes growing tension between the sisters .it’s not long before ghostface inevitably returns , planning on making sam’s life a living hell . she does everything in her power to protect her sister and friends , even putting out the idea of running away from the city or sacrificing herself so they can live . however it’s not successful , realizing that the core four are her family and they won’t let her deal with this alone .after luring the masked killers to the shrine of past ghostface’s , they’re revealed to be richie’s family out for revenge — detective wayne bailey , quinn and ethan . the first trio of ghostface
killers , the carpenter sisters face them together as a team . in the end the core four are triumphant , all surviving the attacks . sam takes one last glance of her father’s mask , dropping it to the ground and coming to terms with his legacy . the carpenter sisters walk into the sunset together knowing they’ll always have each other through thick and thin .

• sam’s mother played a huge part in her decision to leave for five years . she planted the idea in sam’s mind that her family wouldn’t be safe if she stuck around which ultimately led to sam believing that if she left woodsboro she’d be protecting them .• sam used to love watching horror movies and was a fan of the stab franchise until she found out about her father . she avoided the horror genre for years , but is now starting to get back into it w / tara and mindy’s recommendations .
• sam has insomnia which causes her to get very limited sleep . when she manages to sleep she usually deals w / nightmares , and they’ve gotten worse since the ghostface attacks in
woodsboro .• sam is naturally warm so every time she’s at her apartment she always leaves the air conditioning on .• sam had the idea to dye her hair shortly after the woodsboro attack of 2022 . she thought it would not only be a fresh start for her , but a way to be less recognizable as billy’s daughter .• not only is sam not the best driver , but she also has road rage . if she’s in a car with anyone else she’d prefer them to drive rather than herself .• sam is generally very out of the loop due to how busy she is w / work . she’s very behind on what’s going on w / her friends unless it involves tara or ghostface .• sam likes to sign her name after sending a text . she secretly knows she doesn’t have to , but she wants to be certain that whoever she’s texting knows it’s from her .• sam cannot function unless she starts the day with an energy drink . her favorite flavors are apple and mango .
